San Francisco takes pride in being a renewable energy leader. Since the early 1970s, San Francisco residents, businesses, and government agencies have chosen solar technologies as smart solutions to our energy needs.
We have set the ambitious goal of achieving 10,000 solar rooftops city-wide by 2010. Our mission is to help you by designing hassle-free and convenient solutions to your solar needs. We have streamlined the solar permitting process and give planning priority to businesses that meet high-level green building (LEED gold or above) standards.
Global climate change is a major challenge. We cannot wait for others to tackle it for us; we need to take action today. That is why in 2002 we set the goal of reducing San Francisco's greenhouse gas emissions to 20% below 1990 levels by the year 2012 a goal far more aggressive than that set by the Kyoto Protocol.
